Ordinarily such a lantern is hung high up and is operated by means of a wall switch, so that it will only be necessary to make a small hole in the top and run the cord through, allowing the lantern to hang on top of the socket. If it is desired to turn off and on directly at the lantern, a socket operated by a little hanging chain may be used, or else a 1½-in. hole may be cut in the top and the shade attached to the socket at a point just below the socket key, by means of four little strips of tin.
